Freelance Writing Services

MILLIONS of Words

That's how many I've published. Millions.

And it took millions more to get to that point.

That's the sort of experience I can offer you. Big jobs or small, regardless of the task at hand, I can accomplish it.

How can I help?

Whether it be briefs, features or profiles; advertising copy, short stories or special reports, I can handle it for you in a timely, professional manner. I have experience with it all.

I can tackle editorial or advertorial, do company profiles or interview your boss for your company newsletter. I like writing for the Web. I've been known to write speeches just for fun. It's the craft of writing that I love, so I'm up for any challenge.

Check out some of my Stories & Samples for an idea of some work I've done, or get in touch and I can provide more targeted examples.

What's It Going To Cost?

While I can offer transparent rates for my Editing Services, writing costs vary. For argument's sake, rates begin at US$.50 per word, and go up and down from there, depending on the work at hand. Corporate work tends to be higher due to the inherent complexities usually involved in the subjectmatter. Ghost Writing is definitely higher. Large volumes of work are costed lower. Should my name remain attached to the work, and it is printed with a full credit, fees are also lower.

Other factors can also affect rates. For example, does the piece require extensive research or interviews? Is the job a rush? Which party will retain rights to the content? It all plays a role in the quote.

It may sound like an intimidating process, but it's not. I absolutely guarantee fees and timelines will be discussed beforehand. I keep my quotes fair - usually at median market levels - and at no time will you be surprised by a cost you didn't expect.

All quotes will initially be presented electronically, with a description of the work, the timelines and fees, so you'll have a record of the offer before you commit to it. No work will be done or billed for until you give it the green light.

The only alteration in the fees from that point on will come from reasonable expenses incurred - long distance charges, etc.

The (Not So) Fine Print

An invoice will immediately follow acknowledgement of acceptance of content, or passage of what the author deems to be a reasonable amount of time. Payment will be made within 60 days of said invoice date, with a 25% surcharge being added at the discretion of the author for late payments.

Contractors without established credentials will be required to pay 50% of fees up-front in order to cover Cancellation/Kill Fees. (See below for details.)

Two (2) copies of all printed works will be provided to the author, free of charge, as a condition of all freelance agreements.

Revisions

Quoted fees include a reasonable amount of revisions. Subsequent edits and refinement are an important part of any editorial job, and occasionally it might take several passes to get the job done exactly right. It's all part of the process. However, radical changes in content, direction, tone or format made at the discretion of the contractor are not considered to be revisions. They are separate works and do not fall under the scope of the initial contract.

If you have any questions or concerns, big or small, about common editorial policies, please feel free to ask.

Cancellation/Kill Fees

Priorities change. Strategies change. People change jobs. For these reasons and others, all jobs are subject to a 50% Cancellation/Kill fee should the contract be broken at any point between the go-ahead and before the delivery of the agreed-upon content. Once the content is delivered, 100% of fees are due, regardless of subsequent use.

Privacy Issues

If you're worried about having a freelancer attached to your job, don't be.

If, as a condition of the contract, anonymity is stipulated, it is unquestionably guaranteed. Only a written release on your part will void such a clause.

Sometimes you just need a professional helping hand - speech writing being a prime example - and that's something that can remain within the confines of the contract. Fees for professional writing are based on a balance of credit and cost. More credit for the Writer means less cost for the client. Less credit means a higher cost. Deal with professionals and you'll always know where you stand.

Spec(ulative) Work

Some humorous souls approach professional Writers with offers of future work/payment in exchange for immediate work done for free. Or, they might ask for initial work to be done in order that they might decide if they want to take the relationship further.

No. But thanks for thinking of me.
